Launched in 1991, the Porsche 968 was the culmination of nearly two decades of development in Porsche's front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The 968 was essentially an evolution of the 944 and represented the final chapter in Porsche's transaxle era. This sports car was celebrated for its handling prowess, well-balanced structure, and remarkable durability.
Under the hood, the Porsche 968 housed a 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine - one of the largest four-cylinder engines of its time. This engine boasted 236 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. The 968 also utilized Porsche's VarioCam system, which adjusted valve timing for optimal performance across the rev range.
Coupled with either a six-speed manual transmission or a four-speed Tiptronic automatic, the 968 sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 6 seconds and reached a top speed of 156 mph.
Styling of the 968 was an evolution of the outgoing 944, but with more modern elements. The pop-up headlights were replaced with modern, flush units, and the front fascia was redesigned to align more with the look of the Porsche 911. Read more
