The Cadillac Catera is a four-door, five-passenger luxury sedan that was manufactured by General Motors for the 1997–2001 model years. It was introduced in 1996 as an affordable entry into the Cadillac lineup and was intended to compete with other luxury sedans like the Mercedes Benz C-Class and Lexus ES 300. The Catera was built on an updated version of the Opel Omega chassis and was powered by a 3.0L V6 engine making 200 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. The Catera featured standard luxury amenities such as leather seating surfaces, power windows and locks, air conditioning, cruise control, AM/FM cassette stereo with CD player, traction control system, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and an optional navigation system. The Catera was offered with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
The Catera had a reputation for being reliable, although some owners reported issues with the power steering and electrical systems. It also had a fuel economy rating of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, making it one of the most fuel-efficient luxury sedans available at the time. Read more
