VAZ-2129 is a three-door long-wheelbase version of the Niva SUV, produced in small series in Tolyatti from 1994 to 1996.
The prototype "Niva" with an increased wheelbase was manufactured at AvtoVAZ in 1992, but it was not planned to mass-produce this car. It was used for sea trials of components and assemblies of a promising minivan. The long tests of the Niva aroused public interest, and in 1994 AvtoVAZ Pilot Production began small-scale production of a model that received the VAZ-2129 index (sometimes it was called the unofficial name Kedr).
The three-door SUV received a wheelbase increased by half a meter and an insert in the middle of the body. The technical “stuffing” remained the same as that of the Niva: a 1.7-liter gasoline engine (80 hp), a five-speed “mechanics”, a permanent all-wheel drive with a reduction gear and a lockable center differential. A small number of cars were equipped with 1.6 liter engines.
The curb weight of the VAZ-2129 model was 1350 kg - 140 kg more than that of the standard VAZ-21213 SUV. Read more
