The Mazda 626 was an automobile produced by Mazda Motor Corporation from 1979 to 2002 across five generations. Initially it was a compact car, but later versions evolved into mid-size cars. It replaced the Capella in the line-up and is now replaced by the Mazda6.
The first generation of the 626 introduced two engine options, the 1.6 L and 2.0 L. It featured a 4-speed manual transmission, 5-speed manual transmission or 3-speed automatic transmission, plus fuel injection was available as an option on certain engines.
The second generation of the 626 saw improvements in terms of performance and powertrain. It included an optional turbocharged engine, making it the first Japanese car to have such an option. Powertrains included a 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission.
The third generation of the 626 was one of the most successful versions and had a sleeker silhouette and more modern look than its predecessor.
